The Project
Reading2Smile needed a platform that would put children at the heart of book discovery. The challenge was to create a website that could manage 500+ reviews while remaining easy to navigate for young readers, parents seeking recommendations, and teachers looking for classroom resources.
The site required custom post types and taxonomies to organise reviews by age groups (1-6, 7-11, and 12+ years), genres, and themes. Advanced search and filtering functionality was essential, allowing visitors to quickly find books based on multiple criteria without overwhelming them with options.
A key requirement was making the admin area straightforward for the site owner to manage hundreds of reviews and add new content.
As with all my projects, accessibility was paramount. The site needed to work seamlessly with screen readers and assistive technologies, while also delivering excellent performance to ensure quick load times for families on varying connection speeds.
I am a project manager who has commissioned Michael to design three websites for me and my clients. I am not a techy person but have quite strong ideas about what I would like my website visitor’s experience to be. The Result
